Design Wall Monday 3/26/12
My design wall looks the same as last week, but I am making progress on the Storm at Sea quilt. I have continued making the parts I need for this quilt, and there is finally an end in sight. At one point a few weeks ago I figured out how many pieces are in this quilt, and the total came to almost 3700! No wonder it has seemed to take a long time to finish putting them together. This quilt pattern is not for those who want immediate gratification. I am so eager to see it together.

Very pretty - love the color

ReplyDeleteI have a huge amount of fabric in that same color family that my daughter gave me for Christmas. Her only request was that I use all the fabric in the same quilt. It is not the 'color' that I would ever buy, but it is very pretty. Your quilt is beautiful and I think that pattern would be just what the doctor ordered for that fabric. Did you purchase the pattern somewhere or is it your own design?
ReplyDeleteThis design is my variation on the traditional Storm at Sea pattern. The main change I made was putting a nine-patch at the center of the large square-in-a-square units. The border design uses the same shapes, just changes the coloring on them. I am sure you could find versions of the pattern online or in many quilt books.
DeleteI just love this quilt, and the border you came up with is inspired. Some day when I grow up, I want to make one! Beautiful job.

ReplyDeleteI've missed a few blogs here and there but am glad I caught this one...it really is looking spectacular. I have a Storm as Sea top in the works...mostly the "thinking stage!"
