Stash Report and Stitching Time 8/31/2025

My stash report posts (and all other blog posts) have been missing in action since early in the month, but I have a good reason--we went to Alaska! It was the trip of a lifetime, with time spent in Anchorage and at Denali National Park, followed by a fantastic cruise from Seward to Vancouver, BC. We got home late Monday night, and I'm finally feeling like I've adjusted back to normal life.

We saw all sorts of wildlife, plus lots of amazing scenery, but I thought I would share a couple of photos geared more to the quilting audience. This garment was in the Anchorage Museum, but I don't have any information about it.

We saw this wall of hexie panels outside a food court in Seward.

There are some small changes to the stash that have happened this month. Of course I visited quilt shops when I had the chance in Alaska, but showed great restraint in my purchases, adding less than 2 yards to the stash (some fat quarters and one panel.) We didn't see the Aurora Borealis, but these remind me of it.

The usage for the month happened before we left town. I used 1-5/8 yards to enlarge both the top and the back of my Star Pulse quilt, plus the binding (see it HERE.) I also used 1/2 yard for a simple tote bag made as a guild project.

2025 STASH TOTALS

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. Thanks to lots of prep before we left for Alaska, I had plenty of applique with me and found time to work on it every day except one. It sure felt good to get back to my sewing room this week!

Stash Report and Stitching Time 7/27/2025

My stash report is currently headed in the wrong direction, with the addition of some new fabric but no usage to report for this week. I've spent plenty of time sewing, but most of it used fabric that had either already been counted in an earlier stash report, or the fabric used didn't come from my stash, like a new guild project.

The fabrics added to the stash were purchased to supplement what I already have been using for my temperature quilt. I was worried about running out of some colors before the end of the year. I might not need all of them, but I'd rather have extra than run short. The fabric line is "Glaze" by Libs Elliott for Andover. 5.5 yards added to the stash.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. I finished joining blocks together for a small quilt top at the beginning of the week. After that, most of my quilting time was centered on an upcoming guild project, making library tote bags.

My first challenge was figuring out how to use a friend's overlock machine, because she is going to be out of town for our sewing day next week. Unfortunately, I broke a needle on my first attempt, which delayed progress for a couple days. I was able to get the machine running properly by the end of the week and finished off a couple of tote bags. I also cut out 30-35 more bags for our upcoming sewing day, all from fabric that had been donated.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 5/18/2025

It was a very productive week in the sewing room, with major progress made on multiple projects. That meant a significant amount of fabric used for the week, helping my stash report total get closer to being back in the black. I used 1.5 yards in the sashing and border for my Sewcialites 2 sampler quilt (read about it HERE.)

1.875 yards was used for the backing and binding on the Diagonal Squares baby quilt, shared in the same blog post.

I also used 1.25 yards to make the last set of "Terry" blocks.

Altogether, that adds up to 4.625 yards used for the week. I did have one small addition to the stash. We had a speaker from a local quilt shop at our guild meeting this week, and she did a pop-up shop for us. It would have been rude to not buy anything from her, right? I got one charm pack, Olive You by Zen Chic. It's not a color palette I normally gravitate toward, but for some reason, it spoke to me that day. 3/4 yard added to the stash.

I still have a long way to go before the stash total is back to even, but I feel really good about the progress made this week. Finishing quilts definitely eats up some yardage.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. Along with the projects shared above, I also got caught up on my Temperature Quilt, cut the pieces for a guild sewing day next week, and attended a guild meeting. It was a week filled with quilting, just the way I like it!

Stash Report and Stitching Time 5/4/2025

I missed writing a Stash Report post last week because we were traveling, so this post covers two weeks. It's time for a little bit of True Confessions regarding my stash report. Remember back in March when I wrote about starting work on a Jane Stickle sampler quilt? (If not, you can read my post HERE.) I had started out by buying 1/2 yard cuts of a variety of teal/turquoise/blue Grunge fabrics. I narrowed down my choices to six colors plus a cream background. After prepping several blocks from one color, I figured out that 1.5 additional yards of each color should be enough for my quilt. I also threw in another color of teal. To top it all off, I bought a bolt (15 yards) of the cream background Grunge, my first time ever to buy a whole bolt of quilting fabric. Total additions to the stash: 26.5 yards. Ouch! It's going to be hard to get back in the black after an addition like that.

Fabrics for Jane Stickle sampler quilt

My usage over the past two weeks has been minimal, partly due to being out of town for a week. I did use 1/2 yard for the purple blocks made to round out the collection for my Terry Rowland colorwash quilt (read about it HERE.)

2025 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                  0.5 yards

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. For the first time all year, I missed a day of quilting. We had gone to Wisconsin for a niece's wedding, and I never found any time to stitch on the wedding day. We had a great time at the wedding and visiting family, so it was definitely worth missing one day.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 4/20/2025

I have a very fun stash addition to report this week. Our quilt guild had a program on Ice Dyeing this week, followed by a hands-on workshop . Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay for the entire workshop, but I was there long enough to learn the process. Yesterday I had the time to make my own set of ice-dyed fat quarters at home.

It was so much fun to learn a new skill and play with fabric in a very different way. We started with three primary colors of dye, and I mostly combined them in pairs. I love the way the indigo blue and turkey red mixed into purple, and the mustard yellow and turkey red produced some gorgeous sunset-like oranges and fuchsias.

I'm not as wild about the mustard yellow and indigo combinations; they came out more olive green than I had hoped. The other three pieces in the above photo have all three colors combined. I was afraid they would just turn out muddy and dull, but they are surprisingly pretty.

These pieces are all fat quarters, which means 3 yards total added to the stash, and no usage to report for the week. I'm debating how to use these pieces in a future project. One of the leaders of the workshop confessed that she has a hard time cutting up her hand-dyed fabrics.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. The past week was one that had me wondering what I spent all my time doing, because I don't have much to show for it, even though I did spend time quilting every day. I did alter a new suit for Ed to wear to an upcoming wedding, which was my main activity early in the week. Toward the end of the week, I was able to finish a couple more blocks for my Jane Stickle sampler quilt. Here are the latest additions to my set of blocks.

Stash Report & Stitching Time 2/23/2025

My stash report didn't happen last Sunday thanks to the wild thunderstorms that awakened us around 4 a.m. There were multiple tornado warnings in nearby areas, but no serious problems for us. Somehow the blog post just never happened after all that excitement. Today's post covers the last two weeks.

For the first time this year, my stash report shows some additions along with a little usage. Our quilt guild had another sale of donated fabrics recently, and I purchased 9.25 yards there. I also visited a quilt shop and picked up 1.25 yards of a blue solid (not shown in the photo) for a current project.

The only usage to report is 1/2 yard for the latest Project Quilting challenge. The theme was Birthstone, and I made a placemat from some batiks that remind me of opals. I posted about it HERE.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 12/22/2024

My main focus in the sewing room lately has been trying to finish up some of the projects started earlier this year. I've been working on multiple different ongoing projects for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, plus a couple of other Block of the Month quilts. My goal is to get a couple more groups of blocks turned into completed quilt tops.

I already shared photos of the two tops I made as part of the 2024 Monthly Color Challenge from Patterns by JenThis week's stash report includes the fabric used to make the last two sets of blocks for those quilts, 3/4 yard used. You can read more and see my two quilt tops HERE.

The stash report also includes the fabrics I got at Hancock's of Paducah recently. Six yards total added. Most of these are intended to become borders for rainbow quilts.

2024 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                      .75 yards
Used year to date:             130.75 yards

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. Besides the two quilt tops for the Color Challenge, I finished making blocks for a guild BOM, and I've also been working on one Christmas gift. Quilting time is in short supply at this time of year, but I've gotten my 15 minutes every day this week.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 12/1/2024

It's hard to believe that it is December already, and we are headed into the holiday rush. It seems like I am never prepared for this time of year, although I should be used to it by now. We enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving with Ed's family, and it was a nice break to not be doing all the cooking. Before long we will be visiting my family in Wisconsin, which will include meeting the most recent addition to the family, a new great niece. If only the weather would warm up a bit before we go!

My quilting time this week has been spent on secret projects that can't be revealed just yet. The one thing that I can share is the latest addition to the stash. I got some more colors of the Glaze line by Libs Elliott to use in the temperature quilt I'm planning to make next year. These will join the other fabrics I shared in an earlier post HERE. Total yardage added was 6.5 yards.

I now have over 30 different colors available for my temperature quilt, definitely more than I will need. The black is an option for my background/setting fabric (I also have a grey choice.) It's time for me to make a decision on the pattern I will make and to assign colors to my temperature ranges.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. It's been harder to fit in time for quilting this week around Thanksgiving and decorating for Christmas, but I did get at least 15 minutes every day, although some days it wasn't much more than that.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 11/10/2024

There has been plenty of quilting going on around here this week, but I don't have any fabric used to share in the stash report. Some fabric was used, but I either haven't added up the amount yet (my RSC Hen & Chicks blocks) or I haven't taken any photos yet (a finished baby quilt.)

What I do have to show today is a beautiful rainbow group of fabrics that I received this week. Our quilt guild is talking about doing a temperature quilt challenge next year, and I have been researching patterns and fabric lines. Then one day a sale on this gorgeous rainbow line of fabric appeared in my inbox.

Most of the fabrics shown are from the Glaze II line by Libs Elliott for Andover. Fat quarter bundles were marked way down at Quilt in a Day, (and they are still on sale as of today.) I also added a few more colors from the original Glaze collection, and I'm still thinking about getting a couple more. Total added to the stash this week was 16 yards.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 9/22/2024

The past week has been a busy one, with all of my quilting time devoted to a variety of quilt guild activities. We had a board meeting on Monday, and our regular meeting was on Thursday, which was the guild's annual auction. Guild members donate quilting/sewing related items which are laid out on long tables with brown paper bags taped to the tables next to each item. We buy tickets and place them in the bags for the items we wish to win. Here are some of the items I donated.

Green ikat panel

Halloween panel

Santa panel

Stripes, checks and plaids

Heart appliques/blocks

Chilhowie blocks (Bonnie Hunter 2022 mystery)

In addition to everything shown, there were several other plaid and stripe fabrics, plus a few more Christmas panels. Donations from my stash totaled 19.875 yards. I also donated one book and some spools of thread.

I also won a few prizes, fortunately much less than I donated. One of them was this bundle of blue fabrics, which total 4.25 yards.

The prize I was most excited to win was this bin of light/low volume strips. I haven't had much time to go through them yet, but I foresee using them in all sorts of wonderful projects. I estimated the yardage at 7.5 yards by weight. I also won a book and a set of rotary rulers.

On top of all that fabric moving in and out of my stash, I have been busy finishing more placemats for the guild Christmas market. I made eight from a wonderful harvest print that seemed perfect for Thanksgiving.

I also finished another set that feature a very old Hoffman print from the late 1990's/early 2000s.

Each set of 4 placemats used 1.75 yards of fabric. When I added everything together, the totals came to 25.125 yards used/donated from the stash and 11.75 yards added.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. The whole week felt like a race to get things together for the guild auction and to finish the placemats for the Christmas market. I hope to complete the last set of placemats today, and then I should be able to get back to some of my neglected on-going projects.
