Hands 2 Help and a Change of Plans

I can finally share the finished quilt I made for Sarah's Hands 2 Help Challenge. The thing that changed is which quilt got finished. My original quilt was a blue and yellow Sister's Choice quilt (see it in process HERE) that was being assembled and quilted with a quilt-as-you-go method that is new to me. I realized there was no way I could finish that quilt in time, so it meant switching to Plan B.

I started this quilt top over a year ago, following a tutorial at Kat and Cat Quilts for her "Four-Fat-Quarter Baby Quilt." I scaled my blocks a little bigger, started with pieces that measured 20" x 24". My blocks finished at 16.5" x 20.5" each. After adding the sashing and borders, the top finished at 42.5" x 50".

This quilt will get packed up over the weekend and will be on it's way to Emily for Happy Chemo, to be given to patients undergoing chemo. I hope this quilt will help brighten up someone's day very soon.

Check out Sarah's blog page to see all the other quilts being donated to a variety of charities. There are over 170 quilts already posted to her page! Many thanks once again to Sarah for all her hard work in organizing the Hands 2 Help challenge!

Stash Report Sunday 9/24/17

This was a good week for the stash reduction campaign. First of all, there was no fabric added for the week! I am counting 5 yards as having been used. There was 7/8 yard for the remaining Ribbon Star blocks that I showed yesterday. I also used just over 4 yards for the top and back of a little quilt which I hope to get quilted up next week. Here is a photo of the back.

The front of this quilt is Wonky Log Cabin blocks from the same fabrics you see in the back plus a couple others. Very bright and cheerful!

2017 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:              5.000 yards
Used year to date:        70.375 yards
Added last week:                0.0 yards
Added year to date:          8.25 yards

Net used year to date: 62.125 yards

I am continuing to join Kate at Life in Pieces in tracking how many days each week I manage to get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. I have been doing very well at finding some time to quilt every single day, frequently working on two or three different projects each day.

15 Minute Challenge:
9/17 - 9/23                7 of 7 days
2017 Total          259 of 266 days

Check out more stash reports at quiltpaintcreate, and add your own report so we can keep the linky going.

April 2017 Goals and March Report

March was a busy month with lots going on, but I managed to make good progress on several of my quilting projects. I met my One Monthly Goal, and although I didn't complete my two tasks for Judy's UFO Challenge, I did move both of those quilts closer to completion. Here's my list from March.

1. One Monthly Goal--Finish up the third Star Cluster baby quilt.  DONE

2. Add borders plus piece a back for Maple Stars top.  BORDERS DONE, no backing

3. Quilt and bind Stack & Whack Spinners quilt top. Most of the quilting is DONE

4.  Rainbow Scrap Challenge--make a set of red Scrappy Trips blocks. DONE

Also figure out another pattern to make using the pile of 3" red strips  MORE SCRAPPY TRIPS

5.  Meadow Mystery--join all blocks together into finished quilt top.  DONE

APRIL GOALS:

1. One Monthly Goal and UFO Challenge #1--Fiesta Log Cabin remove borders and make more blocks to make this quilt rectangular

2.  UFO Challenge--quilt and bind one of my Christmas panels.

3.  Wonky Log Cabins--join blocks, add borders, quilt and bind.

4.  Rainbow Scrap Challenge--Make 4 Scrappy Trips blocks with multicolor fabrics.

5.  Finish the quilting and binding on the Stack & Whack Spinners quilt shown above as #3 for March.

That's the plan for the month ahead. I will report back at the beginning of May with a progress report and a new set of goals for the next month. I am joining the One Monthly Goal link-up for April at Elm Street Quilts and Judy's 2017 UFO Challenge at Patchwork Times.

Design Wall Monday 3/20/17

It was a quiet, relaxing weekend with plenty of time for quilting. I was able to spend a large portion of Saturday, National Quilting Day, trying out a new-to-me pattern. This was my first attempt at Wonky Log Cabins.

My blocks were inspired by a tutorial at Kat & Cat Quilts called The Four-Fat-Quarter Baby Quilt. Kat's version starts with (you guessed it) four fat quarters. Her blocks finish up at about 14" x 17". I decided to scale mine up a bit and started with four pieces that measured 20" by 24". My blocks as shown here measure 17" x 21". I'm auditioning the bright orange for sashing and/or a small inner border.

I had a great time playing with a new technique and using it on these fun fabrics. They just need a couple of borders to turn them into a cute (and very bright!) baby quilt.

I am linking up to Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times, Monday Making at Love Laugh Quilt, and Moving It Forward at Em's Scrapbag. Check out all of them for tons of amazing quilting inspiration!
