Instead of working on any of my planned rainbow projects, I got distracted by a drawer full of 3" strips from a guild exchange many years ago. I am hoping to use up many of those strips on scrappy projects this year and get that drawer cleared out. I started with a variation on Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Trips pattern. Her version calls for 2.5" strips; I am using 3" strips which give me 15" finished blocks. I have one block together and there's another one partially done. I am waiting to do the final pressing of my blocks when I am ready to join them together, which is why it doesn't look square or flat in the photo.
Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday and at Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.

Sorry you are having problems getting the RSC blocks kicked off this year. I'm having similar issues. The scrappy trips block looks great.
ReplyDeleteScrappy Trips are wonderful quilts, and your blues will have a happy home in one! And any use of scraps is great! And I bet you still have plenty of scraps for Ring Cycles... :-)
ReplyDeleteWaiting for background fabric, that is such a slow way to start a new project. But so necessary, hopefully once they arrive you will be up an moving.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your ring cycle quilt. I love this pattern. It is so easy to get distracted sewing. I guess that is why I have UFO's.
ReplyDeleteThe scrappy trips blocks is beautiful in all the different blues! I think that is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI am sure your distractions will fade with the arrival of the ordered fabrics. It's frustrating when you are itching to get on with something and you can't because the fabric hasn't arrived.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the ring cycle! And the scrappy trips, too!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty scrappy trip in blue.
ReplyDeleteYou picked Beautiful blues for the 1st Scrappy Trips block.
ReplyDeleteScrappy Trips is on my "Someday" list. Yours is off to a good start!
ReplyDeleteLovely blues in your scrappy trip
ReplyDeleteYay for using up bits! Scrappy Trip is fun and will inflict some damage to the stash!
ReplyDeleteNice use of blues and good plans for stash reduction. Good going!
ReplyDeleteYour Scrappy Trips block looks great. Hopefully your fabric arrives soon!
ReplyDeleteI've started sewing strips together for scrappy trips, but never got them any farther. Another one to finish sometime this year. Love the blues! Blessings, Gretchen
ReplyDeleteWill we ever get to the end of our scraps-me I don't think so, LOL But we can try! I too want to try the RSC this year for the first time. Good luck on your project(s).
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear you are joining in in the column quilt. Can't wait to see your blocks. Thanks for sharing your trip blocks with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer to use 3" strips for Bonnie's Scrappy Trips blocks. When I'm planning a good size quilt anyway. I've used the same technique to make miniature blocks too. Definitely a great way to use up miscellaneous strips!
ReplyDeleteNo blocks here either. :(
ReplyDeleteSometimes all we need to do is stitch - it doesn't matter on what - just stitch . . .
ReplyDeleteOne can never go wrong with 36-patch blocks. Love all those blue prints.
