Squared Away in Purple and Lavender

The February color assignment for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is purple and lavender. There hasn't been much purple sewing happening around here yet, but I did pull out a batch of scraps and make my blocks for the Squared Away sampler. I'm making my blocks to finish at 7.5", and they all include the same grey background print. I'm finding it to be quite a challenge to choose fabrics that look good/show up well against the grey, and I'm even thinking about switching to a different background fabric and starting over.

  2. I think these blocks are great! The purples are fantastic. Don't change the background. It looks good as is! By the time the quilt is finished it will not even matter if one month's blocks don't have a lot of contrast. They will all go together just fine!

  3. The blocks look great, but I understand how purple and grey can blend easily. Other months will pop more and it will all turn out gorgeous, just have faith!

  4. Using that gray background may be a challenge, but the resulting RSC blocks are turning out great. Just keep picking through the scraps and doing what you're doing... it's working!!

  9. There is no law that says you can only use one background fabric. You could switch to several that work better with your scraps. The ones you have put together so far look great.

  10. Those purples and grays together look fantastic! As we move to other colors, I think you will find the contrast with the background easier. But there is no rule that says you can't change mid-stream!

Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

  11. Beautiful blocks! I like the gray, but can see where it might cause some problems with finding blues and purples that don't blend. It should work a lot better for the warmer colors. I wouldn't give up on it just yet.
