Golden stars are dancing

My goal for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge has been to make 8-10 Dancing Stars blocks every month , which would be enough to add up to the 98 total needed for a throw quilt. This month I realized that there aren't going to be enough additional colors left to add that will really fit in with my stars. I expect to make stars in red and also in teal/turquoise in coming months. I don't think I will want to include colors like grey or brown in this collection, but I might give them a try and see how they look with all the other brighter colors.

That is the rather lengthy reason why I have been making extra blocks this month. I decided to count yellow-orange as an additional color group. I have 13 yellow or yellow-orange stars finished so far, and another 6 or so prepped for stitching. Yellow is one of my favorite colors in quilting, and it was no problem finding enough scraps and strips to make all these blocks.

I am linking up to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013, where you can see all sorts of wonderful ways that other quilters have been using their yellow scraps this month. It's never too late to join the fun! The Dancing Stars pattern is available as a free download at Amy's Creative Side.

  1. Your extra yellow blocks look great. Hopefully you will find enough colors that you like between now and the end of the year.

  2. Love the yellow and orange together. Your dancing stars are going to be so pretty in a quilt at the end of the year.

  3. I had the same issue last year with the RSC, the neutral colors didn't work well with the vision for the quilt, so I skipped that month and just added blocks at the end of the year to fill in where I felt I needed more of one color to balance out the other blocks. I like your dancing stars more each time I see them.

  4. Its interesting how people interpret the challenge differently - thats what makes it so interesting! I did add the neutrals last year and I was delighted with the finished quilt, but this year my base colour is white on white so neutral probably won't go! Your dancing stars are looking really good though!

  5. Dancing Stars, such an appropriate name for these blocks. Delightful.

  6. These are just gorgeous! I'm thinking along the same lines as you and making extras of some colors... then I'll wait and see what I want to do in some of the future months.

  8. I understand how you feel. Last year I had those reservations BUT went ahead and made the neutral, brown, and (black and gray) blocks during those three months. In December I mixed all my blocks and strips into my quilt. I was surprised at how nicely the colors and blocks played with each other. The resulting quilts were wonderful. And the quilts reminded me of pictures that had used all the colors/crayons in the crayon box.
