Scrappy Rainbow Saturday--Week 37, 2019

I have some catching up to do on a couple of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects. The pieces were all cut for some purple Stairsteps blocks, but instead of sewing them together, I just had to try out a new idea.

We made Quarter Log Cabin blocks as part of the Tiny Tuesday sampler a few weeks ago. I kept thinking about making a larger version of that pattern as a future RSC quilt. Today was the day to make some sample blocks. The light strips are cut at 1.5" and the dark ones are 2", ending up with 9" finished blocks.

Quarter Log Cabins, 9" finished size

My purple blocks look very dark in the photo. I'm undecided about making them as a new RSC project for next year, but it was fun to experiment with something new this afternoon.

I am linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and with Oh Scrap! at Quilting is more fun than Housework on SundayBe sure to check out all of the wonderful projects that everyone is sharing!

  1. At first glance I thought you were doing the Cabin Peaks QAL as your RSC. But your measurements say "no"..I love yours

  2. The alternating sizes of the strips adds interest to the blocks.

  3. Those blocks make such a great pattern -they would be great for an RSC quilt! I like the idea of 9 inch blocks.

  4. Wow, quarter log cabins! This is a very interesting design.

  5. I love the idea for a new RSC project - they will make a lovely quilt. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

  6. Nice experiment! I like them with the varied widths of strips.

  7. Those blocks would be a great way to use up some scrap strips. It's always so hard to pick RSC projects, I want to do multiple, not just one.

  8. Cathy at Cathy's Crazy by Design did a wonderful RSC using quarter log cabins called 'Exploding Boxes'. There's a pic under the 2018 Quilts tab on her blog. Check it out. It's on my list for a future RSC if I can ever finish any of the ones I'm working on now.
