Second Scrappy Trips Top (maybe)

I've been missing out on participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge link-ups for the last several weeks. My quilting time has been very limited, and most of that time has been spent on Bonnie Hunter's new mystery. This morning I decided that it was time to set the mystery aside for the day and get back to one of my 2017 RSC projects, the Scrappy Trip Around the World blocks. Last month I shared the first quilt top, made with all the warm-colored Scrappy Trips blocks (in THIS POST.)

Today was the day to get the remaining blocks joined together into another quilt top. There are only 20 blocks, so they went together fairly quickly. Here is the completed cool Scrappy Trips top.

Just like with the first top, I had to look through the stash and see if there were any fabrics just waiting to become a border for this quilt. I found two options to audition. The first is a printed plaid, probably from the late 1990s. The colors aren't bad, but I was wishing there was a brighter green in it.

Option #2 does include some brighter green. In fact, it seems to have all the colors I used in my blocks. This might be the one!! I'm having trouble getting good photos so late in the day, so I'm going to leave them up on the wall together and make up my mind tomorrow. You all know I love to hear your opinions too! Current size without border is 60" x 75", a good size for a throw quilt. If I add a border, I could easily bring it up to a twin size.

I am linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and at Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on SundayBe sure to check out all of the wonderful projects that everyone is sharing!

  1. Definitely the second one. The colors are perfect for the blocks.

  3. I like #2 for a large border on the outside, with #1 for a smaller inner border! I like big quilts!! Happy New Year! -Jean

  4. Hot Trips turned out well, but Cool Trips is turning out even better!! Border choice number 2 looks like a winner to me.

  5. I LOVE the setting!! I've made a couple of the scrappy trips and passed along several blocks with Diana was doing her Girl Scout project. I currently have a couple in the very beginning stages so may save your picture to use for setting when everything's ready. It's gorgeous!

  6. you're right: the second fabric does seem to be a bit better of a choice. I love the movement you've achieved in the cool quilt- great job!

  7. I love love love these RSC quilts you are putting together. It was a great idea to divide them into hot and cool colors. I am not a big fan of borders but I would choose option two. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

    Happy New Year!

  8. Whichever one you don’t choose would be great on the back. You could always add a green binding to bring in the other shades.

  9. A beautiful setting! You could go with either as the border. The second option would be my preference, but it might not make a good frame. I usually put the fabric along one edge to see if I think it frames the blocks well. The plaid might actually work better there as it's darker. Depends on the look you want. So I've probably been absolutely on help on that front.
