Design Wall Monday 3/28/16

Sometimes it's fun to think about the path that leads from one project to another to the next. My current project started with my butterfly blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016 Sampler. I ended up with a pile of bonus triangles from the butterflies, which I turned into a group of  3" pinwheel blocks. I remembered seeing an Amish quilt that combined two sizes of pinwheel blocks, which seemed like a good possibility for these little blocks.

I need to make a couple of baby quilts, and I have been wanting to use some of my 30's fabrics for them. Maybe this double pinwheel pattern would work for one of the baby quilts?

I thought I could use the multi-color plaid for all of the large pinwheels, and make the smaller pinwheels from the colors in that print. A 6" square of white plus a square of a print will make two of the small blocks. The large block in the photo above finishes at 8", and the smaller pinwheels are 4".
