The pattern for this quilt top is "Atlanta Commons" from the book 101 Nine Patch Quilts by Marti Michell. I highly recommend this book if you come across it. There are so many great ideas for ways to use the simple nine-patch block. I call the quilt "Hidden Nine-Patch." Don't you love the grid design effect of the dark blue?
Here is the crazy fabric that I got for the back of this quilt. The biggest leaves are about 6" long. I always thought it would be fun to quilt this from the back side, following the shapes in the print. However, I am not up for quilting it myself, and I don't think it is possible to quilt from the back side on a long arm.

Wow this one really stood out. Just gorgeous. I'm really glad you pulled this one out to get it done. It deserves to be in the spotlight :)
ReplyDeleteI just love how it glows.
ReplyDeleteThe thumbnail picture (on Judy's DWM) caught my eye. This really glows. I like the backing fabric, too.
ReplyDeleteI love nine-patches and I have that book. I'll need to take another look at it.
How beautiful! It does glow. How big is it?
ReplyDeleteThe finished size is 46 x 59. One great thing about this book is that you can adjust any of the patterns to the size you need.
DeleteFabulous! I love this book, I've got to find my copy :0)
ReplyDeleteYou could make every quilt from this book and never get sick of simple nine patches.......you did a terrific job :0)
Happy sewing
WOW! This is gorgeous! What about having some kind of flame design for the quilting?
ReplyDeletehow cool, really pretty, looks like its glowing. I'll have to check out that book.

It is easy to do on a longarm. You just load it upside down. Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt and I really love the backing fabric! I have found a few things in my "archives" and wonder why they are still sitting there!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is "WOW!"
ReplyDeleteVery cool quilt--I love the hidden 9 patches a lot! Congrats on moving this one off the UFO list! I wanted to quilt from the back recently too but miscut my beautiful yardage and will have to do something else. There shouldn't be any problem with quilting from the back on a long arm--Melinda knows!
ReplyDeleteI really love the glow! How many fabrics did you use to do that?
ReplyDeleteI believe there are 9 fabrics shading from pale yellow to rust, plus the dark blue.
DeleteWow! Gorgeous quilt!
