Stash Report and Stitching Time 3/12/2023

When it was time to sit down and write my Stash Report post for the week, I discovered that I missed posting last Sunday due to a short trip out of town. When we got home on Sunday, I was focused on a new project and never even thought about a blog post. The numbers in today's post all cover that two week period.

The good news is that I managed to use some fabric in that two weeks time, and no new fabric was added to the stash. Most of the usage (4.375 yards) was for the Around the Twist baby quilt that I made as part of the "Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop" hosted by Bea at Beaquilter. I can't resist sharing another photo of it with our gorgeous bright pink azaleas.

I also used 3/4 yard for the Migrating Geese placemat that was made for Project Quilting Challenge 14.5: Sew Not a Square. Yes, many of the same colors appear in both projects, so bright and cheery.

2023 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                 5.125 yards
Used year to date:               21.0 yards
Added last week:                   0.0 yards
Added year to date:               9.5 yards
Net used in 2023             11.5 yards

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. I've gotten back into the rhythm of quilting every day again, with several projects in the works. It felt so good to have an actual finish on that Around the Twist quilt. I need to get it washed up, then sent off to the parents-to-be.

15 Minute Challenge for 2023:
2/26 - 3/11      14 of 14 days
2023 Total        68 of 70 days

To-Do Tuesday 3/7/2023

It's time once again to share how I did on last Tuesday's to-do list, then figure out what I'd like to get done in the week ahead. The To-Do Tuesday link-up is hosted by Carol at Quilt Schmilt: For the Love of Fabric.

I did plenty of quilting last week, but didn't follow my list very well. I was successful on three goals, but didn't make any progress on two projects with deadlines.

To-Do List for 2/28 - 3/6/23
1. Dust Off a Quilt Book project--begin machine quilting   not done
I didn't touch this quilt last week, and the deadline is very close (Friday.)
2. Project Quilting 14.5: Sew Not a Square--make something by Sunday that doesn't have any squares in it and doesn't finish as a square ✔done
I made a fun Migrating Geese placemat. More info in THIS POST.

3. Rainbow Scrap Challenge--pull out scraps in March color of the month  ✔done
Our color for March is green.
4. Stay at Home Round Robin--add flying geese and pinwheel blocks not done
This is another project that wasn't touched and has a deadline (next Monday.)
5. Quilt guild BOM--start on border #4  ✔done
Border 4 is almost done. I shared my progress on this quilt in yesterday's post, but I'm going to post the photo again here.

The two deadline projects are at the top of the list and can't be ignored this week!

To-Do List for 3/7 - 3/13/23
1. Dust Off a Quilt Book project--finish quilt & write blog post for Friday
2. Stay at Home Round Robin--add flying geese and pinwheel blocks; link up blog post by Monday
3. Quilt guild BOM--finish border #4, add border #5
4. Rainbow Scrap Challenge--begin green blocks

That's the plan for the week ahead. I'll report on my progress next Tuesday, and post a new set of goals too. I'm linking up with other To-Do Tuesday lists at Quilt Schmilt.

Happy quilting!

Project Quilting 13.6--Flying Geese

I'm very happy to have completed another Project Quilting challenge, especially since this is the final challenge for 2022. The theme this week is Flying Geese, and our entries need to include a minimum of five flying geese units.

I got a late start on this week's challenge because I was in Wisconsin visiting family early in the week. I considered many different designs with flying geese in them, and decided to make a small Christmas quilt. By Friday afternoon, I had pieced together 48 geese into this little quilt top. The geese are 2" x 4" finished size.

I got as far as auditioning border fabrics before I realized that it would be very hard for me to get this piece quilted and finished by the deadline at noon on Sunday. I'd rather take my time before I decide on the border and finishing details rather than rushing through it.

My next attempt and official entry for the challenge is this potholder. The block design goes by multiple names including Dutchman's Puzzle or Flying Dutchman.

Stash Report Sunday 11/5/17

I've been playing around with some new block ideas this week. I made two blocks that I've known by the name Dutchman's Puzzle (the smaller blocks.) Then I made two more blocks that were a variation of the same pattern, but the name I found for that version was Flying Dutchman. There's some irony in that name because Ed, my music man, is playing in the orchestra for the Atlanta Opera's performances of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. It seems like this is meant to be!

Dutchman's Puzzle/Flying Dutchman blocks

These four blocks used a total of 1/2 yard of fabric. I've been getting lots of quilt shop emails with tempting sales, but haven't given in yet--no fabric added last week!

2017 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:             .50 yards
Used year to date:        87.0 yards
Added last week:            0.0 yards
Added year to date:      8.25 yards

Net used year to date: 78.75 yards

I am continuing to join Kate at Life in Pieces in tracking how many days each week I manage to get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. I had a productive week, making good progress on a few projects.

15 Minute Challenge:
10/29 - 11/4              7 of 7 days
2017 Total          298 of 308 days
