Sunday Stash and Stitching 4/12/2026

The weekly stash report is showing some movement on the fabric used side, even though quilting time was in short supply last week. The majority of my sewing time was spent on some simple tote bags that our quilt guild gives to the church where the guild meets to be included in the shoebox gifts they put together for children over the holidays. 

I made 10 bags using fabrics from my stash, 5 yards total. The adorable whale prints were a prize in a long-ago giveaway.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough webbing to add the handles to several of the bags. I hope to get more from our community service chair next week.

I also made 11 bags from home decor fabrics that had been given to me (not counted as part of my stash.) Again, several of them still need handles.

My other sewing project for the week was to make myself a new apron. I got used to wearing an apron at work, and I still find it useful while sewing at home. It has plenty of pockets, including a good spot to hold my phone while I listen to audiobooks, plus a leather sheath to keep a small scissors handy for clipping threads. 3/4 yard of fabric used.

No new fabric was added to the stash last week.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 9/28/2025

For the first time this month, my stash report finally includes some fabric used! It's not a large amount, 2 yards for my finished Mondo Bag, but it feels good to have a finished project that was totally made from my stash. 

In the good news/bad news category, I had a chance to do a little shopping at Hancock's of Paducah last week. It's always fun to get in there and see what's new, but it's usually bad news for my stash report. 

Fortunately, I was able to restrain myself and ended up with only 4 yards added to the stash. The two turquoise pieces look very similar, but they are different fabrics. The bright dots fabric was bought to replace a similar piece that was recently used up.

Mondo Bag Finished!

I have a finish! This is my Mondo bag, which was started a couple weeks ago in a guild workshop led by Martha, one of our members. Most of my fabrics were leftovers from a previous project, all of them batiks. This photo gives a hint of how big this bag is--it is hanging in front of a louvered panel that measures 15" across. The body of the bag is made from 192 squares that were cut at 2.5".

The lining  was cut from stash yardage of a dark blue mottled batik. I included two contrast pockets inside plus a key clip. The lining color is lighter in the photo than in real life because I had to use a flash for the interior photo.

I've already got a few things loaded up in my new bag, ready to take it to our next guild meeting on Thursday. I keep thinking about other color combinations that I could put together for the next one!

Stash Report and Stitching Time 7/27/2025

My stash report is currently headed in the wrong direction, with the addition of some new fabric but no usage to report for this week. I've spent plenty of time sewing, but most of it used fabric that had either already been counted in an earlier stash report, or the fabric used didn't come from my stash, like a new guild project.

The fabrics added to the stash were purchased to supplement what I already have been using for my temperature quilt. I was worried about running out of some colors before the end of the year. I might not need all of them, but I'd rather have extra than run short. The fabric line is "Glaze" by Libs Elliott for Andover. 5.5 yards added to the stash.

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge at Life in Pieces has us tracking how many days each week we get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time. I finished joining blocks together for a small quilt top at the beginning of the week. After that, most of my quilting time was centered on an upcoming guild project, making library tote bags. 

My first challenge was figuring out how to use a friend's overlock machine, because she is going to be out of town for our sewing day next week. Unfortunately, I broke a needle on my first attempt, which delayed progress for a couple days. I was able to get the machine running properly by the end of the week and finished off a couple of tote bags. I also cut out 30-35 more bags for our upcoming sewing day, all from fabric that had been donated.

Stash Report and Stitching Time 9/1/2024

My main quilting focus for the past week has been on quilt guild projects. We had a community service sewing day on Thursday, with about a dozen guild members working together to make simple tote bags. The bags will go to the church where our guild meets to be included in the shoebox gifts they put together for children.

Earlier in the week, I pulled out some fabrics from my stash and precut 23 bags for the sewing day. I was able to use up some older pieces, and it got 13 yards of fabric out of my stash. Here are the fabrics that became tote bags. Some of the pieces were large enough to cut multiple bags (6 of the bright colored hearts), and there was only enough for one bag of some of the other fabrics.

I believe we finished over 60 bags at our sewing day, and a few of us took some home for the final steps. This photo shows 13 bags that I finished off the next day. Many were made from the fabrics I contributed, and a few fabrics came from others. That dinosaur fabric is especially cute!

Also coming up for the quilt guild is our participation in an annual Christmas market. This week I was able to finish my first project for that, a tablerunner made from a border-stripe floral print that I won at last year's guild auction. I used 1.25 yards for the runner.

There was a little bit of non-guild related stash usage last week too. I used 3/8 yard to make the orange blocks #32 - 35 of the Birthday Blocks by Edyta Sitar at Laundry Basket Quilts. You can see my blocks in yesterday's post.
