One of my quilting goals this month has been to figure out my plans for the 2022 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I got totally carried away with rainbow quilts in 2021, ending up with a total of eight different projects. Three of those projects will continue into 2022, and I have assembled four tops from sets of rainbow blocks. That leaves one more set of blocks, the 30's Kaleidoscopes, still to be joined together.
I've been participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge since 2013, and I have one bin in my sewing room that is filled with blocks and other leftovers from past rainbow quilts. I recently pulled out some 6" LeMoyne Star blocks that were left from a 2014 RSC project. After making five more blocks, I was able to assemble this little baby quilt top.

I had fun pulling fabrics out of the stash to use for the sashing with these blocks. The colorful prints are good accents for the alternating rows of light and dark backgrounds blocks.
I dug through the stash and found some very old, very bright animal prints that seemed perfect for the backing. According to my swatch cards, these fabrics were purchased in 1999! It's definitely time to get them used up.
The blue background fabric had a chunk cut out of one corner, but I was able to piece in a section to fill that spot and even matched the print. It will be impossible to find the seam once it is quilted.
I would love to get this quilted before the end of the year, but who knows if that will happen. For now I am happy to have used up the last of those LeMoyne Star blocks and made this cute little quilt!

It sounds like you are getting pumped up for the 2022 RSC challenge. That is fabulous that you have been participating since 2013. I got tickled when I saw your blue lizard print. I have the same fabric; seeing it brought back memories. I just may have to sneak that into my 2022 challenge too. Lol. Merry Christmas, Julie. Happy Quilting.
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty stars - right now I'm thinking 3-4 RSC projects for 2022 but not positive - one has 18 inch blocks so that will be easy, one at 16" and the other I think is 8" so I might change my mind on one to another we will see.

ReplyDeleteOh my! Julie! You make magic out of cereal boxes! This quilt is so lovely. It would be so easy to say that this layout was the plan all along. Bravo on using up an older RSC project and lovely fabric on the back too. It's so cute. Congrats.

What charming baby quilt. Using leftover blocks and clearing out old stash makes it even better. I've fallen behind on RSC the last two years, but hope to get back on track in 2022.

ReplyDeleteI love what you have done with the stars, using both light and dark backgrounds. You are always such an inspiration, I would never have thought of assembling the blocks this way. Great backing fabrics too, always good to use up fabrics that have aged well.
