There were several different quilt projects waiting to be worked on last week, but one of them took over and wouldn't let me stop until it was complete. This is my Blooming Onion quilt top.
Blooming Onion, 60.5" x 80.5" |
The name of the pattern I used is actually Blue Onion by Karla Alexander of Saginaw Street Quilts. Since my version isn't blue, Blooming Onion seemed like a better choice to me. Unfortunately, the colors in the above photo are a little bit off, making the purples look much more blue than they really are. The next photo was taken about 10 minutes later, and the sun was starting to hit the quilt top. The colors in this photo are closer than the previous one.
I've been trying to think of a better name for this quilt, but haven't come up with anything clever. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
I was able to get a great stained-glass looking shot of the top half from behind as it was hanging over the deck railing. I love the way the colors glow!

Such a beautiful quilt--lovely work on this --it really does glow...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThat’s a winner! The purple seems fine to me, not one of the ones I thought might not be a batik. Love the name too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Bravo 👏 👏
ReplyDeleteWow! It's stunning.
ReplyDeleteWow! It's gorgeous. I'm terrible at naming quilts. What a difference a little sun makes.
ReplyDeleteThat is really gorgeous, Julie! I think Blooming Onion is the perfect name!
ReplyDeleteI love your name for this beauty. It deserves to be bossy and jump ahead.
ReplyDeleteBlooming Onion sounds like a perfect name. Your quilt glows from the inside outward, whether or not it's backlit. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm in LOVE, Julie!!! If that purple bothers you, just mail the quilt to me. I'll quilt it and give it to a good home. MINE!!! :o))
ReplyDeleteJust WOW, Julie!!!! I loved this project the first time you shared it, but I'm just in awe of the finished top. As for a name: I don't know what your religious beliefs are, but when I look at your quilt top I see flames -- not destructive flames destroying homes or forests, but Biblical flames symbolizing the guidance of the Holy Spirit lighting a fire in someone's heart and leading them in the right direction. Like the flames of Pentecost or the Burning Bush.
ReplyDeleteStunning! Your colour choices are great!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Julie - wonderful colors - what a bright and cheery quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt glows! I love it! I'm so happy to see the finished quilt and can't wait to see how you plan on quilting it. I couldn't pick out the non-batik fabric...so thanks for showing us!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is absolutely gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous- the colors and block placement are wonderful.

ReplyDeleteLooks great and I like the name!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Lovely color scheme. I love the photo with the sun behind where it glows like stained glass. And I think I like Blooming Onion for the name. Congrats on that finished top. I can see why you didn't want to stop working on it. Oh, and I did not guess the purple was not batik.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. I'm supposed to be testing a block similar to that one. Was it very hard to make?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love this, the curves and colors are beautiful.
