2020 Mystery Quilt 60.5" x 60.5" |
This is my version of the Laundry Basket Quilts 2020 Mystery by Edyta Sitar. For 15 consecutive days, from March 20th until April 3rd, Edyta shared a different quilt block pattern. Each day's block needed to be made 4-8 times (except for one day when our assignment was to make 16 of the daily block!) At the end of the 15 days, we would have a total of 100 blocks, all finishing at 6", which then were assembled into this lovely design.
I started out well for the first couple of days, but soon got distracted by other projects. I returned to this QAL for the final week of block designs, and nearly managed to make up for lost time, completing my last set of blocks one day after the final block pattern was released. It took most of my free time last week to get all the blocks joined together into this top.

The one remaining question with this quilt is whether or not to add any borders. The current size is 60.5" x 60.5", and it might be more useful if it were larger. I know there are some lovely blue and brown fabrics in my stash that could be used for borders. That is a decision I will be pondering over the coming week.
I had so much fun following along with this mystery quilt. The variety of different block patterns really helped keep it interesting, and Edyta's instructions were very clear. I believe the mystery will be removed from the Laundry Basket Quilts blog at some point soon, but I don't know if it has happened yet. If it's still there, I highly recommend downloading Edyta's patterns for this lovely quilt.

Your piecing always looks so perfect ! Mine have a bit of a wonky style, i think i need to be a better cutter.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!!! Love the fabrics that you used - it is just so soothing - If you added a border it might distract from the look of the quilt. It has this look like everything is pointing to the middle - or pointing out - I wonder if a big border would change that vision.... ( I know what I am trying to say - i just don't know if its coming out!)
ReplyDeleteI love your version - it's beautiful in these fabrics. I downloaded the patterns as it went and had to sit on my hands not to start it as I could see it evolving into a lovely quilt. (Trying too hard not to start anything new...) I may have come across a bundle in my stash that would be perfect to use....!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty coor combo for your quilt.
ReplyDeleteFabulous job! Love your choice of fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThis came out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely. And, you must of done a great job clearing fabric to a nice project.
ReplyDeleteI had to wait for more fabric to finish my blocks, and now I just need to do it! I plan to add a 3" border around mine, but now I am thinking bigger. Love yours!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It's beautiful! ;^)
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see everyone's version of Edyta's mystery. I like the mix of blues and browns. I decided to add a border to mine.
ReplyDeleteThis mystery quilt turned out gorgeous!! It would be beautiful with an applique outer border and a narrow inner border in blue; depends on whether you want to be just done with it already and invest that much time, of course. But I love this one enough that, if it was mine, I'd want to get it big enough to go on a bed for sure. Great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful version of the Edyta's mystery. Great job persevering through all those 6-inch blocks!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish! Love the colors you selected. It is nice to have a extensive stash to play with when you can't go out and order fabric.
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning! I LOVE those fabrics & they go with the pattern perfectly!!!!
