Folded Box blocks, pattern by Donna Lynn Thomas |
My design wall currently holds some of the 3D Folded Box blocks that I have been making as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Making these blocks every month has been a great learning experience on the importance of value (lightness and darkness) in fabric selection. Each time I try to choose a batch of fabrics for the blocks with a good mix of light, medium and dark, but I'm still surprised by which combinations work really well for the 3-D effect and which are less successful. I can't wait to see all the different colors together!
I am sharing with Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times, Monday Making at Love Laugh Quilt, Oh Scrap! at Quilting is more fun than Housework, Moving It Forward at Em's Scrapbag, and Scraptastic Tuesday at Mrs Sew & Sow..
These blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to blogging, Julie. The Folded Box pattern lends itself well to the RSC.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look really good - and great 3-D effect too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blocks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great block. The corners certainly gives a 3D effect.
ReplyDeleteAs I opened your blog I was struck by how 3 D your blocks looked. Then reading it I realized you were working hard at making them look 3 D. And, you succeeded wonderfully. I like that block a lot.
ReplyDeleteA great learning project! It doesn't always workout the way you think i will does it. The blocks are lovely and I'm also looking forward to future colours. Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
ReplyDeleteI'm way behind, just getting back to working with the colors for the soscrappy challenge. I also changed to making string blocks too. I won't have a completed quilt with them for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bonnie. You have indeed worked hard to get the 3-D look on each one of those blocks and have really succeeded. They look fantastic. I've been admiring them for so long. Maybe a 2017 project will work out. I'm up for the challenge right now. They are so exciting. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteValue can be tricky but I think you have done a great job getting the 3-D effect.
ReplyDeleteI love the colorful blocks along with the neutral ones--it really pops!
