Kevin posted the final layout for the quilt at the end of August. His version was made from 2.5" squares and finished at approximately 72" x 89". Mine is made from 2" squares, and I knew I didn't want a big quilt. I joined four-patches and squares following Kevin's instructions until I reached this point, then declared it finished! This top measures 48" square. Check out the difference in colors in my indoor and outdoor photos!
After completing that top, I still had lots of 4-patches around. I started playing with them on my design wall. This is what I was able to make from those leftovers.
It seemed unfinished, so I added some borders with more squares. Of course, I had used up all the original parts, so making the borders meant cutting and sewing even more squares. Eventually I ended up with this 39" top, perfect for a baby quilt.

Your SSSS quilt came together beautiful and your bonus quilt is gorgeous too. I used the same colors as you did, I'm hoping mine looks half as good.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job Julie! And you got 2 quilts out of the adventure!
ReplyDeleteThese tops are oh so lovely! You never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteI love them BOTH!!! and now I want to make the second one with my leftovers!!! How creative you are!!!
ReplyDeleteI love both your quilts, make me want to jump right in and start one!
ReplyDeleteWow, the edition of the blue border to your mostly yellow bonus quilt makes the center positively glow. Good choice to make two for one. I often don't want to make the bigger size quilts proposed for mysteries. Glad to see an idea for how to handle that dilemma.

Congratulations on your finishes, love the blue and yellow color combination.
ReplyDeleteA QAL that yielded a quilt and a spare --- now that's a great project! Both are lovely. Now the question: is it time for some blue fabric stash replenishment?
ReplyDeleteThe blue and yellow is stunning. I have the instructions for this downloaded, but I did not quilt along. You have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! Hmm, someone else I know is playing along with this QAL, too. I remember seeing her colors of red and white - ish on both colors. I think both of these turned out great! How wonderful to have used up the extras right away - no adding fodder to the stash or the extra block pile that goes nowhere. Not that I know of what I speak. LOVE the two colors together. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic, congratulations! I love the blues and yellows together. All those 4 patched were worth it.
ReplyDeleteYou did have a fabulous time playing with your blue and yellow fabric scraps, didn't you. Wow, the placement of all your different scraps is truly amazing. As my eyes wander around your quilt I am struck by how all those little scraps play nicely together. A gorgeous finish!
