Folded Box blocks, tutorial by Donna Lynn Thomas |
As usual, my photo through the bathroom doorway has some of the blocks cut off along the sides. I have about 60 of the 3D Folded Box blocks, enough to make a throw quilt and two baby quilts. There are chunks of several different fabrics that are being considered for the sashing up on the wall behind the blocks. It's difficult to see much difference between them in this photo, so here are a few close-ups.
I'm pretty sure I will use the fabrics from the first two close-up shots as sashing, but I don't think I have enough of either one for the throw-size quilt. There are two different fabrics with the blocks in the last photo, and either one would be enough for the bigger quilt.
Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday and at Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.

I like both of the bottom fabrics, the dots subdue the blocks, the lemon yellow makes the blocks look brighter. The top backgrounds, the one that looks almost like honeycomb or chicken wire, it's the one on the right. They are GREAT blocks!
ReplyDeletemix them up for a more complicated background. It's a scrap quilt you know. That's what our foremothers would have done!
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom fabric on the last photo the best... but you could go totally scrappy and use them all!
ReplyDeleteGreat block collection!
My background preference is leaning toward the top left and the bottom right fabrics. I suppose it would depend on how much yardage was available. Scrappy is always an option, too!
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom right fabric! I'm very impressed that you ended up with 60 blocks!
ReplyDeleteSo many blocks! I watched you make them all year, and still didn't realize there were so many!
ReplyDeleteI'd mix up the sashings, too, but I always seem to be trying to use the maximum number of fabrics in every quilt...
As always, I love your blocks. The fabric choices were amazing, and they look so companionable up there together.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are fantastic!! I vote for the top left fabric, love the movement in that one!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful about sums it up for your quilt! Such pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the chicken wire one best because it is geometric and that blends with the geometry of the boxes. But all the boxes really shine and you can't go wrong with any one or all of them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love all of the rainbow blocks together!
ReplyDeleteThese are going to be some very colorful quilts! Hope you have some time for stitching this week.
