Scrappy Rainbow LeMoyne, 12" blocks |
I chose fabrics that matched the colored stripes in the backing fabric and pieced long strips approximately 4-5" wide. These were inserted to replace some of the original color stripes in the backing, bringing it up to the width needed for this quilt.
Here you can get a better look at the fabrics that were inserted as the wide stripes.
This quilt is now ready to be quilted and finished. I don't have any immediate plans to do that, but it feels good to have everything prepared.
Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday and at Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.

What a clever solution to a backing issue!
ReplyDeletewow! what a great (but time consuming!) idea for your backing. it's perfect for your top, and you did a great job with that, too! the sasihg, cornerstones and borders are perfect- you did a great job all the way to the end- no shortcuts. (I'm prone to do that!)
ReplyDeleteWow. Your stars are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE your quilt top AND the creative backing "extension." Nice work!!
ReplyDeleteNow that's some creative thinking! You are right...that backing is perfect now.

ReplyDeleteLove what you did to make the backing larger. You now have a two sided quilt. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteUsually I insert a row or column of fabric or blocks to make a backing work for me. People think I do it on purpose, something planned, a pattern. I just smile.
Brilliant use of that backing fabric! And your quilt top turned out beautifully too. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteReally clever solution for the backing and a really nice finish after the long wait. Your star blocks are stunning, like all the beautiful blocks you make.
