Yellow was the perfect choice as our February color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. The sunny warmth of my yellow 30's fabrics really helped cheer up the sewing room on some dreary grey days.
When I shared my pink kaleidoscope blocks last month, I also showed several different colors I was considering for the contrasting corner triangles on half of the blocks. Someone suggested trying grey as an option, so this time my blocks are displayed with a piece of light grey solid. The light grey works well with the circle effects of the kaleidoscope blocks, but I'm not sure it's the right choice with the 30's fabrics. I'm no expert on 30's quilts, but grey doesn't seem like a color they used very often. I'm still looking for the perfect choice!

I am loving all of your 30's kaleidoscope blocks! I just love this genre of fabric. I would probably wait until I had a few different colors of blocks finished and then audition fabrics for the triangles again. Good luck finding the right fabric!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and cheery. The grey does look nice with the yellow.
ReplyDeleteVery nice and neat. I love how they are multiplying.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of pretty yellows and I like the pairing with gray a lot...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThe kaleidoscope blocks are so fun! I think Carissa is right about waiting to pick the right color (which is exactly what you’re doing!) I bet something surprising and appropriate will present itself down the line.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks work so well with just that little bit of grey. It is a neutral colour that will go with all the colours of the rainbow, perfect for the 2021 challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks ook lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks! The grey really works. When I think of 1930s quilts, yellow and pink are the two most common "theme" colors that I remember. I found this post on 1930s fashion colors with lots of fabric collections from the era.

Some of the fabric collections show this light purple they called hyacinth. It's a grey/purple in some of the collections. Maybe that's an option if you want to stay true to the 1930s color palette.
Pretty!
ReplyDeleteWell, yellow and gray are the color combo of the year for 2021, according to Pantone. But if you're going for a more authentic 1930s color scheme, check out the 1930s solids from Windham Fabrics: https://windhamfabrics.net/php/fabricshop/fabricshop.php?a=sc&Category=376. I could see Mint, C.Turq, Lilac or Orchid working well with your yellow prints for an authentic vintage look. I'm loving your kaleidoscope blocks, by the way. What's your block size?
ReplyDeleteThe Frey is pretty, but it does not feel depression era. I always think of mint or teal for 1930s fabrics, but I’m sure something will pop once you have more colors in the mix.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you went more to the lavender side of gray ... or black ...
ReplyDeleteI like the bright yellows - the grey is part of the pantone colors... But I think I would like mint or turquoise for some reason - something to brighten the yellows up.... you'll know it when you see it haha!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty blocks and I do like the grey with the yellow... and pink and grey go well together =)
