Last week I showed my version of a jelly roll race quilt made completely from green 3" strips. Check it out in THIS POST. I ended up grouping my green strips into sets of four and cutting them into segments. I am in the process of auditioning those segments with two different brown fabrics to use as the centers and sashing with these blocks.
I keep going back and forth on my preference between the two brown fabrics. It probably means I'm not completely sold on either one, but I'm determined to use something from my stash. I welcome your opinions! I am linking up to Design Wall Monday at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, Monday Making at Love Laugh Quilt, and Moving It Forward at Em's Scrapbag. Check out all of them for tons of amazing quilting inspiration!
Hi Julie, I'm liking the second picture better, and I am with you on using up what we have in our stashes. Thanks for linking up with Design Wall Mondays.
I think the lighter fabric lightens up the entire quilt. And, conversely the darker fabric seems to darken the quilt. So do you want it to look light? Or dark? Although, looking at it again, I'm wondering if part of the light dark thing is the pictures. I, too, like the idea of using up fabric from stash.
Hi Julie, I have to chuckle - what Alycia said is so true. You have a 50/50 split vote right now, and I'm voting for the darker fabric. Pick the one that you love the most - stick with your guns of using up stash. Then you'll have room for that next piece of fabric that just HAS to be purchased. ~smile~ Roseanne
I like the darker of the two brown strips..but they are both nice... looks like deep, dark, mysterious and woodsey things...nice work on this...hugs, Julierose
It's so interesting how the two different choices give different moods to the blocks. I like the lighter choice best but the darker one works too. I'm no help at all. I'm always for using what you already have. It makes me feel virtuous somehow.
Love the way this turned out. I remember how you started out with this and chopping them up into rail fence blocks really looks good! I prefer the darker brown as well. On my computer, the lighter one almost looks orange.

ReplyDeleteOhh that block is so unique!! I'm always afrid to vote - you;ll get a 50/50 reaction ! ha ha - but I like the darker
ReplyDeleteI like the darker color - more 'tree trunks in the forest' looking - but either color would work. Happy choosing!

I would use both and mix them up and put a double border on. How's that for causing more design confusion?
ReplyDeleteI like the darker one, but really either would be nice. It is nice to be able to use up some stash.
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer the darker. Like the blocks you are making with your strips!

ReplyDeleteI like the darker it gives it a warmer feel. But the lighter one is good too.

ReplyDeleteI like the rail fence version of the blocks. If you haven't made a decision yet, I'd go with the darker brown. It contrasts more with the blocks.
