Digging through the dark strips

I haven't gotten very far with this month's colors for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. For October our assignment is to work with black, grey and brown scraps. All I have managed to accomplish is pulling out my two scrap drawers that hold those colors and start choosing which to use. I am planning to make a batch of 6" LeMoyne stars and see how they look with all the bright colored stars. I also need a 12" star to go in the center of that grouping.

Since I had already made hexie stars and snowflakes in both black and brown last year, I will concentrate on adding background hexies to them.

Check out this week's Rainbow Scrap Challenge posts--lots of amazingly beautiful rainbow projects to inspire you!  I am also linking up to Hexie Weekend at Quilting Reader's Garden and to the Monday Morning Star Count at Life Under Quilts.

  1. How do you store all those projects you've got started on? I get all crazy if I work on too many (that's why I didn't do RSC this year--I felt overwhelmed and am just now getting them finished) . Maybe it's because I'm 71 and can see that my time here has got to be limited....ah, youth!! Anyway--I do love those hexies. I cannot pick up my Monet's Garden hexies as my LH thumb is giving me grief. hugs Julierose

  5. Up north we always told the kids not to play with the yellow, brown or black snow but your dark snowflakes look too cute. They would be tempting to play with!!!

  6. Waiting to see your LeMoyne stars in the coloureds for this month, and of course your delightful hexies look so good in these colours.

  8. That's cool on the hexagons. I didn't find out about soscrappy until this past June.

  9. Love those hexagons! I think I am going to add my black surrounds next year for each color that comes up for my flowers. Thanks for the idea =).
