Jabberwocky Blocks

One of my 2023 projects for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge was Jabberwocky, a Judy Martin pattern from The Block Book. I made three blocks in each month's assigned color and ended up with 28 blocks. Now I'm working on getting them joined together into a quilt top.

I've gotten two columns of blocks stitched together with the sashing. The vertical sashing strip is not attached to the columns yet. There are three more columns to be assembled. I'm having some doubts about the larger sections of grey print at the top and bottom of the second column, but I'll wait to make a decision after I get the rest of the blocks joined into columns.

Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday. I'm also linking up with Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.

Happy quilting everyone!

  1. I wonder if alternating strips of the gray and your background fabric might be better than solid gray. I love your blocks.

  2. Offsetting the blocks adds such interest to the quilt and is a great way to handle 28 blocks vs. 30 blocks. I'm not bothered by the gray pieces at the top and bottom of the five block columns. I think it makes more sense than continuing the background or divvying up the gray.

  3. Are you going to include a narrow border of the gray around the blocks? If so, then I think the gray panels at the bottom will encourage the illusion the blocks are "floating" in the setting. This is going to be another gorgeous RSC finish.

  4. I like your grey sashing and grey chunky pieces. Your stars float beautifully!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
