Design Wall Monday 11/2/2020

My blocks for the Alaska Quilt Along have been accumulating on my main design wall. I made the last set of blocks a couple days ago.

Without any borders, these blocks would make a quilt measuring 63" square. That doesn't seem like a very useful size, so I have been playing with ideas for how to add a row of blocks at the top and bottom to make it rectangular. That would take the finished size up to 63" x 81". The top row in the next photo is my first attempt at adding a row, and I'm still planning to change some of the fabrics around.

  1. I think you are on the right path with the mostly neutral blocks for the top and bottom. Looking forward to seeing what direction you decide to go with those. Happy stitching this week.

  2. Gorgeous pattern, will make a lovely quilt. Your rows at top and bottom should work very nicely to lengthen the size.

  3. As I was watching you make the blocks I could not see how they would all go together. WOW!

  4. Your color choices are really nice, they give such a warm feeling to the quilt. I made an altered one earlier this year, I made it into a 100" square. If you divide the quilt into quarters, you'll notice that all the quarters are the same pattern, just mirrored. When I reconfigured mine, I just worked with a quarter, adding blocks to it to make the design expand. It was a lot easier than trying to do the whole thing at once.

  9. Wow, Julie - you sure got all those blocks together quickly! The top just glows with all the golden tones, and the extra length will be really nice.

  10. I would like two more darker stars in the top and two mire in the bottom part of your extension of the pattern. Whete you now have 8 outer stars, there would be 12, and the extra you are adding would liok like oart of the original plan. But free advice is wirth just what you pay for it...zero. It is a lovely quilt and I want to make it too. Your colors are great choices. Hugs, Judy
