My version of the Alaska quilt is a finished top!
Alaska quilt top, 63.5" x 81.5"
my variation of a pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts
Even before the announcement of a quilt-along to make the Alaska Rainbow Quilt at Laundry Basket Quilts, I had been intrigued by the possibilities of this pattern. It is a beautiful variation on a traditional kaleidoscope design. I decided to make mine using autumn colors. Here's a closer shot of the center so you can get a better look at the fabrics.
The pattern made a quilt that measures 63" square before borders. I did a little redesigning, adding an extra row of blocks at the top and bottom to make my quilt rectangular.
The Alaska Rainbow quilt along is still going on at Laundry Basket Quilts. You can also buy different versions of the pattern or precut kits at their website.
Finishing this quilt top was my One Monthly Goal for November. I will link up at Elm Street Quilts at the end of the month.

Amazing!
ReplyDeleteAlaska is gorgeous, Julie! Love your fall fabrics and colors!
ReplyDeleteI went back and read about your quilt. I didn’t see you mention cutting. I’m assuming you bought her templates.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Julie!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! Really like that it’s rectangular and not square.
ReplyDeleteLove your calm fall version of the Alaska quilt. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower to your blog. I love YOUR Alaska quilt. Your colors are so great. I think better than the original! I love the added rows to make it a rectangle which I thinks makes your version superior.
Was Alaska a stand alone quilt pattern or is it in one of her books?
Did you purchase the template set?
I realize I'm coming in and finding out about it in the 9th hour but it intrigues me!

pretty - it is nice to see it in a different color scheme - do you plan to add a border? I'm so glad I had the pre-cut kit LOL
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! That is just a stunner - it just pops of the page - so it must be even more gorgeous in person!!!
ReplyDeleteTurned out beautiful Julie!!!
ReplyDeleteJulie, It's lovely and a perfect size to boot!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so like this version! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWow, Julie, it’s fabulous! The colors and extra rows just make the top. Congrats on a finish and look forward to seeing how you quilt it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely WOW! Making the modifications to the blocks really make the top and bottom row seem like they are meant to be there. I love the color palette. You have wonderful eye for color and design.
ReplyDeleteHooray, Julie!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I love your color choices.
