I have been making lots of pinwheel blocks from my collection of 30's fabrics. I think I probably have almost enough blocks for two baby quilts. The first photo shows the layout I was originally planning to use. Now I can really see how bad the lighting is in these photos--so sorry!
While making the last few of the yellow blocks, I had the idea of joining the small pinwheels into groups of four, then alternating them with the larger pinwheels. Here is what that layout would look like.
Now I don't know which way to go because I like both designs. I would love to make two quilts, but unfortunately I don't have any more of the plaid to make more large pinwheel blocks. I might have to see if I have another multi-color print that I could use for large pinwheels in a second quilt. I am sharing with Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times and Monday Making at Love Laugh Quilt.
Good idea to use the same print in all the large pinwheels -- provides a focal point. I prefer layout #2. (So, how are you doing at using your 30's stash? )
Not that you asked but I like the first one. Could you maybe alternate your background with the plaid pinwheels and have a blank space here and there? Or maybe sahs a small pinwheel like a happy block in the large pinwheels place?
Both ways look great! I would think the second one would be easier to sew together.
ReplyDeleteI like the visual of the 2nd one, but your quilts are always gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are going to make a great baby quilt. I like both layouts, but the second one is more pleasing to my eye. You can't go wrong either way.

ReplyDeleteThat's a hard choice, I like both settings. If you can make only one, I'd have to go with the second setting.
ReplyDeleteI find #2 is more pleasing to the eye - I'm sure you have other ideas to play around with :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a choice! They are both great layouts!
ReplyDeleteHum, I do like the smaller pinwheels gathered in four. But, wouldn't it be nice to get two full quilts out of these blocks.
