As part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I have been working on UFOs based on the color of the month. Green is our color for May, and I realized that I have made 3 different 9-patch quilts that were each primarily green. I pulled out this collection of leftovers from a Blooming Nine-Patch that I made around 2005. The box contained leftover blocks plus sample blocks with fabrics that weren't used in the final quilt. There were also quite a few pre-cut strips, some of which were already sewn up into strip sets, plus I have some yardage of all the fabrics.
I have been trying out different arrangements of blocks on the design wall and making more blocks from the pre-made strip sets. I need to find something with a little more punch to it for the center, but otherwise this is coming together nicely.
The other UFO that features green is my Boston Fiesta quilt, which is now a finished top! I finished joining all the blocks together a couple days ago and added the green border today. I have a fabulous bright print that I was planning to use for the back, but when I went to press it, I discovered that it is stretchy on the crosswise grain. There must be some spandex or something like that in there. I bought the fabric at a discount fabric store 10 years ago, so there is no way to tell now. I am searching my stash for other backing options.

ReplyDeleteI agree wonderful collection of UFOs. And great job on getting them finished. Love the star quilt!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing dancing stars. You are making great progress on your UFOs this year,
ReplyDeleteLove those batiks in greens. Beautiful finish on those stars and Boston fiesta is coming together very well, too. hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the reject backing from Boston Fiesta may be just right for your Leftover Blooming 9-Patch. Loving how that is coming together!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on an awesome finish! Wow. I love it. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh Julie... such a great blog post! I wish I would spend some time sorting out UFO projects and boxes and finding wonderful treasures! Dancing Stars is an amazing scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are really moving on those UFOs. I like the low contrast in the center of your newest project and the dark border. Sorry the original backing won't work for Boston Fiesta, it would have been a great choice for that project.
ReplyDeleteAdore your Dancing Stars!
ReplyDeleteYour dancing stars is beautiful! Great choice for the festival.
ReplyDeleteLove your Dancing Stars! I've had QADD this past week also. I've started 2 new small projects, quilted 3 other small projects, etc. Need to get back to my green!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I love QADD! I just go with it and figure that it is all progress even if it's spread out!
ReplyDeleteYou have the most amazing things stashed away as UFOs...
ReplyDeleteWow!
Lots of projects in your UFO stash. I'd try using that bold print for the backing anyway. I'm making a baby quilt and backing it with minky which has some stretch in it so I'm planning on spray basting it. Might work for you too.
