Time at the sewing machine has been in short supply lately, but I have continued hand stitching background hexies to my rainbow stars. This was the perfect project to have with me for our Thanksgiving travels, so easy to pick it up and do some stitching while hanging out at Mom's house.
I have finished adding the backgrounds to five out of ten large stars--halfway done! Before long I should be able to start joining the stars and snowflakes together. I began this project in August of 2013, and I would love to get the top done by August, 2015.
Thanks to all who commented last week with opinions for sashing/borders on my Rainbow LeMoyne Star quilt. I am planning to either use the black and white check that I showed as sashing or to frame the blocks with the two background fabrics if I have enough. Here are the two different options drawn up in EQ7.
Check out this week's Rainbow Scrap Challenge posts--lots of incredibly beautiful rainbow projects to inspire you! I am also linking up to Hexie Weekend over at A Quilting Reader's Garden.

Hmm. Both layouts have merit. My personal preference - I like the balance and symmetry- is for the first layout. It emphasizes the black and white backgrounds but the second layout emphasizes the colour of the stars. As I said, both have merit. Great finish which ever one you choose.
ReplyDeleteI like the additional design element of the alternating colors in the sashing of the top layout. It really plays with the black and white block assortment. What a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just absolutely love the second layout. The three fabrics in different shades of black in the sashing and border really enhances the stars!
ReplyDeleteI'd be hard pressed to say which layout I like best! The top setting really pops with the black and white traditional setting. The bottom setting is smooth and modern-looking. Either way, your quilt is going to look wonderful - have fun stitching everything together!
ReplyDeleteBoth layouts are pretty but I am drawn to the top one. Love those hexies.......Maybe I need to prep a bunch and start some stars or snowflakes in my travels later this month!
ReplyDeleteI like the first setting for the stars. And your stars and snowflakes is looking gorgeous. Good luck on your goal!
ReplyDeleteYour LeMoyne star quilt is AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the first layout. And LeMoyne stars with the polka dot backgrounds--your are a genius. They are a knock-out!
ReplyDeleteThe first layout gets my vote! :o)
ReplyDeleteLovely hexie stars. I love them in different colours.
ReplyDeleteI love either sashing for dour Le Moyne stars -which look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt goes without saying that your hexes are superb - so lovely to see them at this time of year.
I like the first setting best, but the second one works really well too.
