The Christmas break has finally given me some time to work on my Rainbow LeMoyne quilts. I have been making LeMoyne Star blocks all year as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I ended up with 77 stars that finish at six inches and 12 stars that finish at twelve inches.
I have been trying out a few different sashing options. I started with 20 of the six-inch blocks and ended up with this little top for a baby quilt.

The next group of blocks got a different setting. The final border just needs to be stitched on, although I am having doubts about that black print. Maybe a pieced border of the black and white prints would look better. Any suggestions?
I am still working on putting together the twelve-inch blocks, and there are about 20 of the six-inch stars left over. I have also been trying to decide on my rainbow project for next year.

I love how you sashed the blocks for the baby quilt. Adorable. Looking forward to seeing what you do in 2015! Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteBoth LeMoyne Star quilts look great. Maybe if you break up the black border with a narrow strip of the white?
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to see all of your great star blocks turning into quilts. The black is pretty strong, but a narrower version would work.
ReplyDeleteLovely baby quilt in Lemoyne star pattern. I agree that the black is a bit heavy. What about just binding the quilt in black with no additional border?
ReplyDeleteI love them both. How about letting the second one float on white?
ReplyDeleteLove your projects! What great stars! I suggest a black and white print for the border instead of the solid black. or maybe colorful piano keys? I'm sure it will be lovely whatever you choose. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI love both settings ... maybe use the black as piping for the binding instead of a border? I would be tempted to use one of the star colors for the outer border and binding ... but it IS your quilt :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Both of the quilts look GREAT! Maybe use another color or the neutral for the final border on # 2, and black for the binding?
ReplyDeleteWow great looking star quits.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts! On the second one - maybe a think blackborder and then white? I really like the setting, and I even like the bold black...but I am wierd that way! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThe baby quilt looks great. Like the way you've set the other blocks too. I'm a big fan of a dark solid border to "frame" the quilt center whether it is a narrow first border or the final border. I think it looks great the direction you're headed. If you're not happy with it, try a small black inner border with a different outer border. Just my 2 cents worth!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful quilts. What about a piano key border from the colors in the star blocks? You could use up more scraps! Great job.
ReplyDeleteBoth beautiful quilts - what about a narrow inner border in black and then the wide border in one of the darker colours in the LeMoyne stars.
