Design Wall Monday 4/2/12

I finished making the many units for my Storm at Sea quilt a few days ago.  Yeah!!  Now it's time to play with arranging them on the design wall.  There has been lots of moving parts around to avoid having the same fabric too close to itself or similar colors right next to one another.  It is inevitable that there will be at least one spot where two pieces of the same fabric are right next to each other.  In fact, I have already spotted one instance, but for now I will leave it as is.

I have been laying out pieces for the center section of the quilt first and decided to trade out a few of the darker fabric pieces for ones that have a little more spark to them.  Once those substitutions are done, I can get going on joining the parts together, then add the pieced border.

  1. It is coming along just great. You will probably be the only one who sees the two pieces of fabric that are together. That is what everyone tells me. So I thought I'd pass it along to you.

  3. oh that's just so pretty! must agree with Julie-you'll be the only one who notices 2 fabrics next to each other, but if you find your eye searching and finding that spot every time you look at the layout; change it if you can-you'll feel better. Sometimes though changing one just causes a same fabric situation in another area :)

  10. I just love this quilt! I saw a small version done in multicolored scrappy on the shop how a few weeks ago and now I am just going to HAVE to make one! Scrappy had never occurred to me before! I also saw a demo of the square in a square ruler and I think I will make mine that way. So what is the story with the bright yellow square in the middle? It certainly pops, but something tells me it is a marker and not actually part of the quilt.

    1. The yellow is a piece of paper marking the center of the quilt.

  11. That is gorgeous. I agree that only you will see the spot but if it bothers you, change it. I, personally, didn't see it but I am not looking THAT close.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

  15. I like to take my time with this stage of arranging and re-arranging ... you may have a bit more of that to go, but it's already clear this is going to be one gorgeous Ocean Waves quilt. Great work!
