After about a dozen years of very active involvement in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, last year I felt the need to back off a bit. I loved piecing the many projects I have made through the years, but I haven't done so well at finishing them, leaving me with a large collection of rainbow quilt tops, plus some sets of blocks waiting to be joined together.
I didn't start any new RSC projects last year, but I did manage to assemble three more rainbow quilt tops, Hollow 9-Patch, the Scrappy Colorwash "Terry" Quilt (one of my favorite projects from last year,) and Hearts Applique. I also made some placemats early in the year based on the color of the month.

It sure felt like something was missing from my quilting experiences by not being a part of the RSC last year, so I'm getting back into it again. I decided to start small, making 3" Old Italian blocks from my 30's scraps. I was inspired by recent posts by Barbara Black and by Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting. Cathy's blog is a constant source of inspiration, and I am always amazed at her productivity and organization.

My plan is to keep a stack of pieces for these blocks next to my machine and use them as leaders and enders. I expect to set the blocks with a plain alternate block, but I'm not convinced this yellow is the right color; maybe something a little softer would be better. There's plenty of time before I need to decide that.
Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday and Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.
Happy quilting everyone!

Your Terry colorwash quilt is just gorgeous! I'm in the same boat, most of my RSC quilts are assembled, but not quilted. I get why you backed off last year. You've got a fun new one for this year.
ReplyDeleteThis group is just full of inspiration every week isn't it? The Terry quilt is absolutely stunning!!! The little Old Italian blocks are going to be so cute in your 30s fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! We've missed seeing your great projects. Your colorwash was one of my favs to watch growing. I'm going to see how the Old Italian evolves!
ReplyDeleteYour colourwash quilt is gorgeous, just glowing with life and vitality!
ReplyDeleteOh, your Terry quilt is beautiful!! I watched an episode of Last Homely House where Kate interviewed Terry. Your Old Italians are just right for a rainbow project.
ReplyDeleteThe colorwash quilt is beautiful, the Italian blocks are new to me,I like them!
ReplyDeleteI totally get you. I too have been having trouble working on some of my RSC projects because I have plenty of rainbow quilts. I need to finish some of ones I have started. My new thing is that I am trying to just work on two-color projects and try to get them into a quilt top completion. Each month I have decided to work on the RSC projects that I have started in the past, a two-color quilt in the color of the month, or the current UFO that I have that is in that color. That should help me attach my UFO's, right? LOL... We all know how it goes... hence the stuffed squirrel mascot you have on your blog.
ReplyDeleteTerry's Colorwash is a dazzler! Great to have you back in the mix again and the Old Italian blocks looks like an RSC winner!
