February will be over before we know it, and it seems like there are very few of us who will miss it. I'm certainly ready for March and (I hope) the beginning of spring.
I made one very bright and sunny block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this week. This is my second block using the pattern "Sew Colorful Stars" from the Fat Quarter Shop.
These blocks are bigger than I usually make, 16" finished size. I certainly wouldn't want it to be any smaller with all those triangles. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to press all the seams. That's one thing not addressed in the pattern--no pressing instructions.
Two blocks down, ten more to go. Once a month is plenty for me with so many triangles, but I do love the way the blocks are turning out!

Beautiful! I am sure by the time we get to the end of the year you will know the best way to press them. It also makes a difference if you plan to use sashing, that helps with seam alternation between blocks.
ReplyDeletewonderful block and pretty in yellow
ReplyDeleteThose look great. What a happy pair.
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly a lot of triangles! It a great block though! And so pretty to look at!
ReplyDeleteI see a few of my favorite YELLOW prints in your RSC block, Julie. That QUITE the collection of scraps!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are beautiful but I can see why you only want to make one a month! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI *love* these big stars. The yellow is so pretty-- just a ray of sunshine today.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Julie!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful! Love all the designs you can make out of HSTs.
ReplyDeleteBright, beautiful blocks! They will make a lovely cheerful quilt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks Julie
ReplyDeleteYour big blocks are awesome. Looking forward to seeing how you put them all together eventually.
ReplyDeleteJulie - I'd vote for pressing the seams open. I've been doing this with every patchwork seam for many years. There are a number of advantages - and no disadvantages! Give a try.

Gorgeous blocks, Julie. I’m glad it’s you making them and me just admiring them!
ReplyDeleteThese big blocks will make a stunning quilt!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I'd opt for some sort of sashing to solve the pressing problem. But that's just me!
ReplyDeleteThose do have a lot of HSTs, but they make up so pretty. Looking forward to seeing what next month's color is.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you and I have a triangle love affair, lol. I had the same question as you about the pressing and I press the seams open. It takes longer but it is worth the effort IMHO. Your stars are awesome! If that pair doesn't call in spring, I don't know what could. ;^)
ReplyDeleteThose are two beautiful blocks!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a wonderful rainbow quilt!
ReplyDeleteThese are such wonderful blocks. I look forward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteYour scrappy stars burst with color! It will be a wonderful RSC 2021 project.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like big blocks like that for donation quilts. They look wonderful, can be scrappy and it doesn't take many for a quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks. They are big! you will have a great quilt with those blocks.
