Stitching and DeStashing--Weeks 12 & 13, 2019

My weekly Stash Report has become something I dread sharing lately, with very little going out and much more coming in. Do you suppose that is why I haven't been posting a report every week? Today's tally covers the past two weeks, and I'm happy to say that there was no new fabric added and a good amount going out for a change.

Most of my outgoing fabric was used for a wide variety of blocks over the past few weeks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. They all used such small amounts of fabric that it made more sense to add up the fabric used for the whole group. I made one Framed Crumb Star, 3 string blocks, 3 crumb blocks, 4 Stair Steps blocks, 6 Tiny Tuesday blocks, and 15 Orange Peel blocks. The grand total used for all of those blocks was 1.25 yards, and I also used 3/8 yard for the hanging sleeve on a quilt for a show entry. Here is a rerun of yesterday's photo of most of my scrappy green blocks for the month just because I hate to have a blog post without any photos.

2019 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                        1.625 yards
Used year to date:                        6.5 yards
Added last week:                          0.0 yards
Added year to date:                    26.0 yards
Net stashed year to date:         19.5 yards

Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch challenge helps motivate me to find at least a little time for quilting every single day, and I have been doing much better at that recently. I've gotten in my 15 minutes, sometimes much more, every day for the past two weeks. I'm happy to be getting back to my usual quilting routine.

Scrappy Rainbow Saturday--Week 13, 2019

It's hard to believe that March is nearly over! I've been stitching away with green scraps on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects, and here is a selection of what has gotten done this month.

On the left are three 6" (finished size) string blocks, top center is the 12" Framed Crumb Star, and below that are twelve 3" Orange Peel blocks (Lime Peels?). On the right end are my Tiny Tuesday sampler blocks--an owl, a wonky log cabin, and four Multiply blocks.

The Tiny Tuesday owl block may be one of the cutest blocks ever! Sally's pattern was rather intimidating when I first read through it, but after following her step-by-step instructions, it was no problem to put together, and I love the way it turned out.

Here is a closer, rather crooked, look at my Orange Peel blocks. I can see that I need to be careful to keep my colors light and bright so they show up well against the black and grey background fabrics.

One set of blocks didn't make it into the group photo. Here are my green crumb blocks, which finish at 6". Unfortunately after I made them and went to put them away with the other crumb blocks, I discovered that my red blocks only measure 4" finished. I'm not sure how or if the two sets will be used together.

It has been great fun playing with my green scraps all month. The only blocks that haven't been done yet are the Stair Steps blocks. Maybe I can get those done before we get to April (but probably not!)

Stitching and Stashing--Week 11, 2019

Normally the title of my Sunday Stash Report post is Stitching and DeStashing, but that hasn't been true this week. There were no fabrics added to the stash in the first two months of this year, but that has certainly changed recently. For the third week in a row, there was an addition, this time a sizable one, and I couldn't be happier about it!

The fabrics in the photo above are all part of the "Something Blue" line by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. They were the prize in a recent giveaway at Meadow Mist Designs, with the fabrics contributed by Bear Creek Quilting, and I was the very lucky winner!

This photo gives a better look at the enormous stack of fabric. There are 32 different prints in the Something Blue line, and there is a piece of every single fabric included here, plus duplicates of two of them. All pieces are full width of the fabric, and the lengths vary from 5" for the smallest pieces up to almost 18" for the largest. The grand total is about 10.5 yards!

I have no idea what I will make with this bountiful collection, but I look forward to figuring it out. One idea was to include them in the Flying Dutchman/Dutchman's Puzzle sampler quilt that I started awhile back. The colors seems like they would fit right in. It might be time to unearth this project again.

There was a small amount of fabric usage to report as well. I used 5/8 yard to make a set of four veggie print potholders to replace the tired old ones that we had been using. I have several more vegetable prints from the same line of fabrics (Farmers Market II by Free Spirit, circa 2002-03), so there might be a few more potholders still to come.

2019 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                         .625 yards
Used year to date:                    4.875 yards
Added last week:                       10.5 yards
Added year to date:                   26.0 yards
Net stashed year to date:         21.125 yards

For the first time since the end of January, I was able to get in at least 15 minutes of quilting time every single day last week! I hope this is the first of many weeks with a 7 for 7 total. It's time to get my numbers back up above 90%!

Scrappy Rainbow Saturday--Week 11, 2019

I didn't have much time to play with my green scraps for any of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects this week, but I did manage to finish up my Framed Crumb Star block this evening. All sorts of great green scraps in here!

Stitching and DeStashing--Week 10, 2019

Remember the cute giraffe print I showed in last week's stash report? This week there was a large addition to the stash--this rainbow of solids that are going to be turned into at least two baby quilts to go with that giraffe fabric. I got all the new fabrics washed up yesterday and can't wait to start the piecing! 13.5 yards total added to the stash, no fabric used this week.

My quilting time is slowly getting back to the usual routine. I managed to spend at least 15 minutes quilting every day except one last week. Maybe I can go 7 for 7 next week!

Scrappy Rainbow Saturday--Week 10, 2019

It has been so much fun following along with the Tiny Tuesday blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2019 Sampler. This week's block is called Multiply, and it was shared by Jo Butterfield at ButterZ. I had such a good time playing with my green scraps that I ended up making four blocks instead of one. I can imagine making a whole rainbow quilt from these blocks.

Stitching and DeStashing--Weeks 8 & 9, 2019

My Sunday Stash Reports seem to have become an every-other-week event, but at least I am still tracking what is coming in and out. The outgoing fabric for the past two weeks was 5/8 yard for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge sampler blocks and the rest of my red and yellow Orange Peel blocks, another RSC project.

My stash saw the first addition for the year, 2 yards of this adorable giraffe print flannel. I already have some of the same fabric and am planning to use it to back two upcoming baby quilts--more on those later.

2019 STASH TOTALS
Used last week:                         .625 yards
Used year to date:                     4.25 yards
Added last week:                         2.0 yards
Added year to date:                     2.0 yards
Net used year to date:           2.25 yards

I'm still having a hard time getting back to my regular pattern of quilting time for the 15 Minutes to Stitch challenge. There are just too many other things going on in my life right now, but I enjoy my quilting time when it happens. Over the last two weeks, I spent at least 15 minutes quilting on 9 out of 14 days. Hopefully my numbers will see an increase in March!

Scrappy Rainbow Saturday--Week 9, 2019

I had nothing to share for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge last week, but there is a collection of cute little yellow blocks up on the design wall today. The first group has all of the yellow Tiny Tuesday sampler blocks from February. I haven't chosen a setting/sashing fabric yet and will probably wait on that until later. The Orange Peel block with the tape measure fabric may be my favorite so far!

My other RSC project for the week was finishing off the rest of my little Orange Peel applique blocks. I ended up with 9 yellow blocks for the month.

Orange Peel blocks, 3" finished size

It was fun to compare the scale of the different Orange Peel blocks. That Tiny Tuesday block doesn't look so tiny next to the others!
