Stash Report Sunday 8/21/16

I was hopeful that I would be able to get my stash numbers back into the black this week because there would be 6 yards counted as used for a recently-finished quilt top. Then I received a package with my winnings from a giveaway held by Sally who blogs at The Objects of Design. My prize was this jelly roll of Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

I love the prints and the color combos of Kaffe's prints, but I'm never quite sure how to use them effectively, so I don't tend to buy them very often. Thanks to Sally for giving me a chance to play around with this beautiful group of fabrics!

STASH TOTALS:

     Used last week:               6.50 yards
Used year to date:        61.875 yards

Stashed last week:             3.0 yards
Stashed year to date:         64.0 yards

Net year to date:   2.125 yards stashed

I am joining Kate at Life in Pieces in tracking the number of days each week that I spend at least 15 minutes quilting. Once again, I managed to find small chunks of time for quilting on most days. I keep plugging away, and eventually there will be some results worth showing.

Progress in Purples

For the first time in a month, I have both days off this weekend! It feels so luxurious to be off for two days in a row. I hope to get plenty of time for quilting.

Last week I had pulled out my purple scraps, looking for hazy purples with green accents to use for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016 Sampler blocks. I found several good prints, some of them very old, that combine purple and green, and today I managed to finish stitching up my bullseye blocks. I am especially fond of the paisley in the top right block, and also the mostly green spotty print at the center of the middle row.

As usual, I ended up with an extra block (but that's better than being short by one!) I hope to find enough time between today and tomorrow to cut pieces for my other RSC project, the 3-D blocks. I also need to cut some more parts for my hand-stitched hexagon blocks.

Stash Report Sunday 8/14/16

I have fallen terribly far behind on my stash reports and other tracking of quilting activity. My last stash report was three weeks ago! There hasn't been much fabric used since then due to very limited quilting time. In a weak moment, I succumbed to a terrific sale. My numbers are now headed in the wrong direction, but I hope that will turn around again soon. I have one project that is getting very close to being a finished quilt top.

STASH TOTALS:

Used last 3 weeks:           .625 yards
Used year to date:        55.375 yards

Stashed last 3 weeks:       13.5 yards
Stashed year to date:         61.0 yards

Net year to date:   5.625 yards stashed

I am joining Kate at Life in Pieces in tracking the number of days each week that I spend at least 15 minutes quilting. It's surprising to see that I was able to find some time for quilting most days over the past three weeks, missing only three days during that stretch. There haven't been any big chunks of time for quilting, but I try to keep some projects prepped and ready for stitching when I have the opportunity.

15 Minute Challenge:

Year to date              210 of 226 days

I hate to share a blog post without any photos, so I am including a picture of my most recent group of blocks for the Glorious Hexagons quilt. This includes the five blocks I made in July and one for August.

Playing Catch-Up

It is hard to believe that it is almost 3 weeks since my last blog post, mostly due to an insanely busy schedule at work. I've been grabbing a few minutes here and there for quilting, but haven't accomplished much, and I find it easier to stitch than to write coherent sentences in a blog post.

I did get a day off in the middle of the week, and that was my first chance to pull out some fabric options for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge sampler blocks. Our color assignment this month is "the hazy purple of a dawn sky with hints of evergreens." The alternate color choice is to work with greys. I actually have a decent collection of prints that combine purple and green, so I pulled out strips of all those fabrics, plus some other purples, trying to stay away from the pinky purples.

Then I rearranged all my strips, matching them up in pairs as they will be used in the bullseye blocks for the sampler. I'm planning to use the fabrics that run across the top of this photo as the center squares, and the lower strips to surround them.

Here is Angela's sample of the bullseye block that we will be making. Fortunately, it is a very easy block. I hope to have some time over the next week to start cutting for my sampler blocks, and maybe I can even get a few stitched together!
