Rainbow of Bowties

I haven't had much time for sewing on my 2015 Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects lately, but that doesn't stop me from playing with my blocks from time to time. I have been trying out different arrangements of my bowtie blocks, mostly working in EQ7 because it is so much easier to change them around with that rather than arranging over 500 blocks on the design wall.

I saw this very unique bowtie layout on Bonnie Hunter's blog a couple years ago and have been dying to make it ever since. I'm trying to decide if I want to make one big quilt with all the blocks or a couple of smaller quilts. Here is my EQ7 mock-up of the same layout without any borders.

If I decide to make more than one quilt, this version would be another possibility .

Fooling around in EQ7 is lots of fun, but now it's time to sew! Be sure to check out all of the wonderful scrappy projects at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge every Saturday and at Oh Scrap! over at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday.

  1. I've never seen that first arrangement before - I love it! The second one also looks good. I'm glad *I* don't have to make the decision... 8)

  2. I'm impressed you can work EQ7. The first arrangement is so unusual. It looks like woven ribbons. Ain't quiltin' grand?! The second one is great too, both make a big statement. Can't lose. When you feel like putting it together it'll go quickly. LeeAnna

  5. I have never seen any of those layouts, so it was total eye candy for me. Who knew the humble bowtie block could be so versatile? Whatever you choose, I am sure it will be lovely.

  7. Those are great layouts, look so intricate until you analyze them. Whichever you choose will be a show stopper, I'm sure. Have a happy and Quilty new year.
