Scraphappy Saturday 10/25/14

For some reason I haven't been getting much done on any of my quilting projects this week. I guess it was a combination of long hours at work and low energy from fighting a cold. I did manage to finish my black and grey 12" LeMoyne Star block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Here are all of  my 12" blocks with the top fabric candidates for sashing and cornerstones.

I am trying to figure out whether to stop at 9 blocks or make 3 more and end up with a rectangular quilt, which I think would be more useful. I could definitely make a brown star, and probably one with lighter neutrals (tan/beige/gold), but I don't know what to use for a twelfth color. Any suggestions? I would like to get this quilt top finished before the end of the year instead of ending up with another UFO stuffed into a box while I wait for inspiration to strike!

Check out this week's Rainbow Scrap Challenge posts--lots of amazingly beautiful rainbow projects to inspire you!

  1. looks fantastic! for another star: what about a low volume star, with the black background?

  2. This looks lovely so far. I totally hear you on work sapping your energy. I hate it when that happens. If you add another row, you could try some of the colors you already have on the other background, for example, red on white or aqua on black. That could blend very nicely with what you already have.

  3. I completely agree about rectangular quilts. I like the idea of brown and light neutrals. What about a light blue, dark burgundy red or peachy orange for the last block?

  4. Julie, this quilt is absolutely beautiful, for another colour how about a indigo/purple, closer to blue than the violet purple.

  5. I too prefer a rectangular quilt. So much nicer to cuddle up under. I also think a low volume colour star would help to balance the bright colours in the others.

  6. You have covered red, Orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. So now you need an indigo or dark blue purples.

  7. How about one white star ? I think your quilt is going to be spectacular. My Grand'mere's maiden name was LeMoine (pronounced LeMoyne)--maybe I should attempt one...hugs, Julierose

  9. I'm with you on the long hours and fighting a cold! I like rectangular quilts. Looks like you've got a lot of good suggestions for colors to add. Good thing as I would have no clue!

    BTW, love it so far.

  10. It seems to be that time of year for sneezing and long work days. Hope this next week goes more smoothly. I like Soscrappy suggestions for that third block. Which ever way you go it's going to be another beauty.
